In Rylands, Newtowncunningham, there once lived a family named Denn,
and, queer as it may seem to most of us, the wail of a been-sidhe was
always heard before the death of a member.
A clergyman thought this
was all nonsense until he was called to the bedside of a dying Miss
Dunn. Her friends sat around. He joined the company, and after a prayer,
was very much surprised to hear in the distance, the wail, as of
someone in distress. The others heard it too, and shortly afterwards the
patient passed away.
From that time onwards the reverend gentleman
often told the above story, remarking that "there are more things in
heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
